Cafeteria Plan

2011-2012 Cafeteria Plan Benefits

MEA’s contracts with the City and County of San Francisco (CCSF) and the Superior Court (SC) provide for a flexible package of “non-salary” benefits credited twice monthly. The current biweekly rates for FY 11-12 are $319.39 for CCSF employees and $636.00 for SC employees.

Employees may allocate available flexible credits to any combination of the pre- or post-tax benefit options listed in the Health Services System (HSS) MEA Benefits Guide, located here and on the HSS webpage: www.myhss.org. There are many programs available for your selection in this plan, benefits which will appeal to a wide variety of needs among the diverse interests represented within the MEA universe. Enrollment is handled through Employment Benefit Specialists (EBS).

Flexible credit allocation options include putting credits toward employee contributions to health insurance premiums. If 100% of flexible credits are applied toward employee health premium contributions and the cost of the required contribution exceeds the total credits available, the additional amount will be covered by twice monthly payroll deductions. Credits applied to post-tax benefits will result in imputed income.

Members must allocate flexible credits annually during Open Enrollment. If you allocate credits to Miscellaneous Reimbursement you must provide proof of qualifying expenses incurred between July 1 – June 30, of each fiscal year to EBS by September 30 of the following fiscal year in order to receive reimbursement. This deadline is absolutely firm. All options with no payroll deduction require paper claim forms and proof of expenditures to be filed directly with EBS for reimbursement. You may download claim forms at www.myhss.org . If you elect to allocate credits toward Miscellaneous Reimbursement but do not submit sufficient eligible claims to EBS against your credits by the required deadlines you will forfeit those flexible credit dollars.

To learn more about individual choices and how to contact the Third Party Administrators who are under contract to the City to enroll employees, maintain their coverage, and pay many of the benefits, visit www.myhss.org for details.
