Membership in the Municipal Executives Association is open to "Any person employed in a management position with a government agency of the City and County of San Francisco whose classification has been assigned to a bargaining unit represented by Municipal Executives Association" (MEA bylaws).
Membership vs. Representation, an important distinction. Presently, all members of a classification assigned to the MEA for purposes of collective bargaining with the City and County of San Francisco, are collectively represented by the MEA whether they are, individually, dues-paying members of the MEA or not. This is an extremely unusual situation in the world of labor-relations organizations (unions). The MEA, being a private entity, derives all of it's funding from it's membership dues, yet it is required by charter to provide representation to all personnel assigned to it, regardless of whether those personnel contribute financially to the organization. So, if you are represented by the MEA, this gives you a rare opportunity! The opportunity to voluntarily support an organization which supports YOU, not because you have to, but because it is the right thing to do! In comparison to other labor organizations, membership in the MEA is very inexpensive, presently, $25 per pay-period, and one of the options in your flexible benefits package is to have those dues refunded to you monthly! When you become a member of the MEA....Everyone wins! SO!!.... If you are a member of an eligible classification, and are ready to join the MEA and support your representatives, you need to do two simple things: (1) Fill out and print an MEA Membership Application and (2) Print and fill out a "Payroll Deduction Authorization Form" (PPSD-1001) Fax them both to the MEA business office at (415-989-7077) And know that you are supporting the organization that supports you and your fellow Managers! |
